Plus Size Statement Pieces: Royally Navabi

Have you ever seen a piece and thought, “I am going to feel like a queen when I wear that”? That was my exact reaction when I first saw this glittery kimono from . Sometimes you just want to feel like royalty, ya know?

Although I was deeply in love with the Hayley Hasselhoff for Elvi , I didn’t know exactly how I wanted to style it. Everything about this kimono screams statement piece. I knew from the campaign photos of Hayley Hasselhoff in this piece that I could certainly go high glam but plus size occasion-wear isn’t necessarily something I wear everyday.

This high level of quality is something you still so rarely see in plus size fashion. The fabric itself employs a technique called devoré which dissolves part of the fabric to make this partially sheer pattern. Major for providing such intricate details on the construction for a design junkie like me. This technique creates both soft delicacy and sturdy fabrication all at the same time. This piece has some weight to it but it’s all in the details.

I didn’t have anything in my closet that felt quite luxe enough to go full glam so I just went classic Ready to Stare and paired it with short shorts, a cute top and wooden block heels. I think one of the most important things I’ve learned on my fashion journey is that you can wear whatever you want; however you want. You can mix high and low; hard and soft. You can wear a dress with sneakers; you can wear sweats with heels and I certainly can wear a glitter kimono with short shorts. AND I DID.
