Like any self-respecting queer, I’m an iced coffee drinker no matter the weather. If I’m being biased (which I totally am), the coffee scene in Cleveland is one of best around.
Many of the best Cleveland coffee shops and cafes call Lakewood, OH home! In Northeast Ohio, we are fortunate to have many craft roasters and world baristas that call The Land home. Seriously, this list of cafes in Lakewood could go on and on!
Here are my t favorite coffee shops on the West Side of Cleveland with many cafes in Lakewood making the list.
Brewella’s
16806 Madison Ave. | Lakewood
If you’re in the mood for coffee, crepes, and antiques, is the spot for you. Expertly designed for each season, Brewella’s has a changing menu to fit the changing weather. If you are looking for a nosh, this Lakewood cafe is known for its sweet and savory crepes.
This LGBTQ+ owned shop is great for a quiet afternoon browsing their antiques and sipping a coffee. It’s also an excellent spot for selfies. This is one of the best Lakewood coffee shops without a doubt.
Goodkind
15526 Madison Ave. | Lakewood
Fancying a cocktail but don’t want the booze? Grab a craft latte from Goodkind Coffee, another stand-out Lakewood coffee shop. Their beverages draw inspiration from classic cocktails like mojitos and old fashioned. One of my all-time favorite coffee creations is found at Goodkind. Do yourself a favor and grab a CLV which features cold brew, lime juice, vanilla simple syrup. It’s chefs kiss.
Propaganda Coffee
17806 Detroit Ave. | Lakewood
Propaganda Coffee is the one of the newer kid on the block, opening in summer 2021. What makes this Lakewood cafe unique is that it’s all vegan, all soy-free, and all gluten-free. Allergy laden babes rejoice! Everything on their menu is amazing from vegan baked goods to affogatos. Don’t miss out on their weekend brunches.
Rising Star
13368 Madison Ave. | Lakewood
One of the city’s more prominently feature roasters, Rising Star is a Lakewood coffee community staple. Rising Star is all over this city from Westside to Downtown to the Eastside.
Many of our local grocery stores, restaurants, and coffee shops feature their brews. I love Rising Star because it’s one of the few guaranteed places you can find an iced lavender latte on the menu year-round.
Ready Set Coffee
7306 Detroit Ave Ste. 101 | Detroit Shoreway
I told myself I wouldn’t play favorites when creating this post, but I can’t help but point out that Ready Set Coffee has my heart and soul. This roasters and cafe is home to both my all time favorite coffee beverage: the Duke (it’s only seasonal so get while you can)and roast beans (I’m a sucker for a Yirgacheffe).
It’s a bright airy shop with the nicest baristas around right outside of the funky neighborhood of Gordon Square. While this technically doesn’t belong on a list of cafes in Lakewood, if you only hit one coffee shop on this list, make it Ready Set Coffee.
Duck Rabbit Coffee
4160 Lorain Ave | Hingetown
A minimalist’s dream coffee shop, Duck Rabbit Coffee is home to unique and offbeat roasts. Want a pink bourbon pour over or an obscure bean you’ve never heard of? You can find it here.
Duck Rabbit has succulent brews for the discerning coffee palette. Don’t try to order any fancy flavors – they don’t carry any flavors. If you like your coffee black, this is the shop for you.
Lekko Coffee
2529 Detroit Ave | Hingetown
Another newer addition to the coffee scene in Cleveland, Lekko is a living wage roastery and cafe nestling in the hip Lakewood-adjacent Hingetown neighborhood. The vibes in this shop are immaculate, think contemporary living room vibes, perfect for meetings and networking.
Phoenix Coffee Company
12501 Madison Ave | Lakewood
Phoenix Coffee Company is the only employee owned cooperative coffee company in the state of Ohio and one of Cleveland’s premiere coffee roasters. This shop has six locations in bustling districts across the city each with their own vibe. Phoenix is a great spot to post up and get some work down while noshing on commissary bites and topnotch brews.
Roasted Lakewood
13417 Madison Ave | Lakewood
Roasted Lakewood is a sister shop to Roasted Tremont and shares in the space’s mission: stay awhile. build community and get creative. This woman-owned space sources its coffee beans from a speciality female coffee farmer in Honduras. Coffee is their main squeeze but they recently started serving up breakfast sandwiches so don’t count Roasted out of the cafes in Lakewood race just yet.
If the heart dotting the i’s in their branding doesn’t give it away, Roasted is for the girly pops. Expect a seasonal menu perfect for chronically online baddies.
